Why I Still Shoot Film at Half My Weddings

craft
Digital is better by every measurement that can be measured. That is exactly why I keep a film body on my shoulder at most weddings.
Thirty-six frames forces a decision about what matters. You stop covering and start choosing. The grain, the imperfect highlights, the frames that miss, that texture is the closest thing photography has to memory.
I do not romanticize it. I scan everything, I back everything up twice, and I never shoot a ceremony on film alone. But the photographs people frame and hang are film about seventy percent of the time, and I stopped arguing with that a long time ago.
